Best Par 4’s

Here’s a collection of my favorite 18 par 4’s I’ve seen of the 173 total courses I’ve played. I’ve limited each course to 1 entry, although you could argue some deserve more than one, but for variety I left it at one.

Estancia Club — hole 18, 462 yards

The par 4, 18th at Estancia is a fantastic finish, with visually interesting bunkers, a downhill tee shot and Pinnacle Peak in the background

Pacific Dunes — hole 9, 406 yards

IMG_2001.jpg
Featuring a massive fairway and two greens, Pacific Dunes is the most adventurous par 4 I’ve played

Rock Creek Cattle Company — hole 7, 486 yards

IMG_3884.jpg
Playing up, over and down the Montana topography, Tom Doak’s par 4, 7th at Rock Creek Cattle Company is among the best two-shotter’s in the country

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course — hole 14, 361 yards

IMG_3451.jpg
the 14th at Jasper Park Lodge is among the discussion for the best short par 4 ever, as well as the best bunker-less par 4 in the world

Bandon Trails — hole 11, 445 yards

IMG_1865.jpg
The inside corner of the par 4, 11th at Bandon Trails features some nasty bunkering cut into the hillside

Sagebrush Golf & Sporting Club — hole 2, 454 yards

IMG_0758.jpg
Over some land described by architect Rod Whitman as “[what are we] skiing,” the par 4, 2nd at Sagebrush Golf & Sporting Club is abundant with options off the tee and into the green alike

The Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Club — hole 14, 440 yards

IMG_2659.jpg
The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel looms over the par 4, 14th. The infamous Stanley Thompson bunkering is the main defence on what used to be the finishing hole at Banff Springs

Streamsong Resort (Red) — hole 11, 434 yards

IMG_0660.jpg
Two bunkers in the middle of the fairway give this tee shot a feeling of a double fairway, forcing the player to pick which side he wants

Gamble Sands Golf Club & Lodge (Sands) — hole 5, 517 yards

IMG_6297.jpg
The longest hole on the list, the 5th at Gamble Sands features 150 or so yard wide fairway, but forces the player to get more aggressive down the right for the ideal angle and a shorter yardage

We-Ko-Pa Golf Club (Saguaro) — hole 10, 337 yards

IMG_1783.jpg
A Lions Mouth template is perhaps the most defining feature at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s Saguaro course, a 2006 Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw design in the desert

Blackhawk Golf Club — hole 13, 475 yards

IMG_4145.jpg
A bunker awaits those who don’t hug the North Saskatchewan River on the left at this semi-blind tee shot at Alberta’s highest rated private club

Predator Ridge Golf Resort (Ridge) — hole 6, 438 yards

IMG_3493.jpg
A tee shot that plays semi-blind due to massive rock outcroppings, the par 4, 6th at Predator Ridge, Ridge course is a fantastic par 4

Chambers Bay — hole 10, 436 yards

IMG_4801.jpg
Hands down the best hole at Chambers Bay, the 10th menders through the dunes to a cool green complex sandwiched between dunes and bunkering

Sahalee Country Club (South) — hole 8, 444 yards

IMG_2328.jpg
The most open hole at Sahalee is also the best, with the player deciding to fade it around the corner or lay up short of the bunkers

Pasatiempo Golf Club — hole 16, 386 yards

IMG_1711.jpg
Tiger Woods once called the green at the par 4, 16th at Pasatiempo Golf Club “unfair,” thanks to its three-tiered green. However, there’s no denying the hole is all-world

TPC Scottsdale — hole 14, 492 yards

IMG_3604.jpg
A monster of a hole, the 14th kicks off the final stretch at TPC Scottsdale that features the 5 best holes on the course

Idaho Club — hole 6, 439 yards

IMG_0972.jpg
The difficult 6th at The Idaho Club is a Jack Nicklaus track, but one likely could’ve guessed due to the fade-biased tee ball

Riverside Country Club — hole 18, 388 yards

Looking back at the uphill par 4, 18th that has the South Saskatchewan River down the entire left side of the hole
